2020 has been a year of ups and downs. January saw us sorting through hundreds of applications from family businesses across the North West, as we began to judge the very first North West Family Business Awards. In March, we celebrated these family businesses’ successes at our inaugural Awards ceremony, held beneath the wings of the Concorde at Manchester Airport.
Not long after, the UK went into lockdown as the country united to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Throughout all of this, we have been struck by the strength and resilience of family businesses across the country. These have been incredibly trying times, and we have every intention of celebrating the North West’s family businesses once again in 2021.
How we will be able to do this remains to be seen. The North West Family Business Awards is an awards with a difference: stepping away from the more corporate style of other events, we aim to put on a fun, exciting and vibrant evening to remember – and we think attendees at our 2020 Awards would agree!
This means that we are committed to hosting a live Awards ceremony next year, rather than one online, as we feel that it is both the unique and wonderful family businesses we celebrate, and the vibrant atmosphere of the event, which make NWFBA what it is. With this in mind, we are holding off setting a definite date until things are a little clearer, all the while keeping the health and safety of our attendees and our team at the front of our minds. However, #NWFBA2021 is going ahead – and we want you to enter!
We will be opening expressions of interest and applications for the North West Family Business Awards 2021 soon, and can’t wait to hear about your family business. We know that the last few months have been incredibly challenging, and encourage family businesses of all shapes and sizes to apply – whether you have been open or closed throughout the lockdown.
We are proud to be part of such a wonderful community, and look forward to learning about your family business over the months to come.
