Ullswater ‘Steamers’ finalist for ‘People’s Choice’ in North West Family Business Awards

It has recently been announced that the iconic Ullswater ‘Steamers’ is a finalist in the ‘People’s Choice’ category in the North West Family Business Awards 2022.

The family-owned heritage attraction has been operating in the tranquil Ullswater Valley for over 160 years, and has topped strong competition with a record number of 186 businesses entering the awards from across the North West Region.

The prestigious People’s Choice Award highlights the public’s favourite family business within each North West region, and is determined by a vote from the general public.

Georgina Townsend, Director of Lake District Estates says, “The Steamers have been capturing the hearts of visitors and locals since 1859 and we are thrilled to have been shortlisted for People’s Choice in Cumbria. We are proud to be a family-owned business and this is testament to the whole team who keep the unique experience alive at Ullswater. We are all looking forward to hearing the outcome of the awards evening in May.”

The team from the Ullswater Steamers will join other finalists at a special awards event held at The Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel, Liverpool on Friday 13 May 2022, hosted by presenter and food writer Nigel Barden, where the winners will be announced.

Co-Founder and Director, Sue Howorth said: “We were inundated with some incredible entries and we have been burning the midnight oil to get through them as they came in right up to the wire. The judges had extremely difficult decisions to make so the finalists should be extremely proud of themselves!

Co-director, Dave Clarkson said: “A huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to fill out an application form and enter. We’ve been absolutely blown away by the strength and diversity of applications.”

Jacqui Jackson from Thomas Jardine & Co and 2022 North West Awards Chair of Judges said: “The number and quality of applications from across the North West has been outstanding, the businesses are clearly proud to be family businesses and the detail in many of the entries has demonstrated that they are very progressive and innovative.

The finalists will now receive a visit from our specially selected panel of expert judges before the judges make their final decisions. The winners will be announced at the glittering ceremony on Friday 13th May.

Chester Business Finalist In North West Family Business Award

It has just been announced that Chester based Farrall’s Group is a finalist for the Haulage & Logistics category of the North West Family Business Awards 2022.

Farrall’s Group beat strong competition with a record number of 186 businesses entering the awards from across the North West region.

This first-class event will be held at The Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel, Liverpool with host, food writer, and presenter Nigel Barden, and will take place on Friday 13th May 2022.

Leading North West Building Society, The Cumberland, Joins the North West Family Business Awards 2022

The Cumberland Building Society has joined the 2022 North West Family Business Awards as a sponsor.

The prestigious awards are a real calendar highlight for many and celebrate the best businesses, employers and employees in the North West family business sector.

Along with sponsoring the ‘Best Social Impact’ category, the hugely respected building society will also be guest-judging the finalists of their category, which includes visiting the nominees on-site as part of the process.

Kids Planet revealed as finalist in North West Family Business Awards

It has just been announced that Cheshire-based nursery group Kids Planet Day Nurseries is a finalist for the People’s Choice category of the North West Family Business Awards 2022.

Kids Planet beat strong competition with a record number of 186 businesses entering the awards from across the North West region. This award allows each region to choose their favourite family business through an online nomination and public vote and there will be one winner per region.

The North West Family Business Awards champions family businesses across the North West, recognising their achievements and celebrating their successes in style.

This first-class event will be held at The Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel, Liverpool with host, food writer, and presenter Nigel Barden, and will take place on Friday 13th May 2022.

Sale-based husband & wife directors join the judging panel for prestigious north west family business award 2022

After their momentous ‘Retailer of the Year’ Awards Win in 2020 at the North West Family Business Awards 2020, Sale based Bluebell Fitted Furniture are back in 2022 and their husband-and-wife directors, Alison and Mike Reuben have joined the prestigious judging panel for this year’s awards. The North West Family Business Awards are organised and run by The Family Business Network, and provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate with family businesses from across the North West. The awards in 2022 will be held on Friday 13th May at the Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel, Liverpool.

Alison and Mike have over 30 year’s experience running their family business, Bluebell Fitted Furniture. Recognised as one of the most successful independent businesses in their industry, they bring a wealth of expertise, knowledge and experience to the table, on what it takes to run a successful family business in the manufacturing and retail industry.

Alison and Mike employ over 25 people at their Sale showroom and Altrincham factory. Some of their employees have been with them since they started in 1992 and they also have a number of apprentices they have taken under their wing.

They feel passionately about supporting their local community and Alison is also a Goldman Sachs 100 Small Businesses alumni and provides mentoring to other local businesses.

Commenting on the Awards, Bluebell Founder and Director, Alison Reuben said:

“Winning Retailer of the year in 2020 was a real highlight for us as a family business so to be asked to join this year’s judging panel is a huge honour.”

We will be judging Emerging Family Business, Retailer of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year and feel that our own personal experience will help find a thoroughly deserving winner in each category.
