The category spans activities from design and development to construction, maintenance, and engineering services, celebrating quality, expertise, and excellence in the built environment.
Business Services
This award recognises family-owned businesses delivering high-quality business-to-business services.
The category includes professional, financial, creative, technical, and specialist service providers, celebrating reliability, expertise, and strong client-focused delivery.
Consumer Services
This award recognises family-owned businesses delivering high-quality services directly to consumers.

This award recognises family-owned food and drink producers demonstrating quality and craftsmanship.
The category welcomes producers across all food and beverage specialisms, celebrating consistency, innovation, and production excellence.
Food and Drink Establishments
This award recognises family-run food and drink establishments delivering high-quality hospitality experiences.
The category includes cafés, restaurants, pubs, and similar venues, celebrating quality, service, and customer experience.
Leisure and Tourism
This award recognises family-owned businesses operating within leisure and tourism.
The category covers accommodation, attractions, entertainment, and visitor services, celebrating memorable experiences and strong service delivery.
Emerging Family Business
(1 up to 3 years trading)
This award recognises family-owned businesses who have been trading for between one and three years that are already making an impact.
The category is open across all areas of enterprise, celebrating early success, innovation, and strong future potential.
Environmental and Sustainability Impact Award
This award recognises family businesses demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability.
The category applies across industries, celebrating responsible practices that reduce environmental impact and support long-term sustainability.
Social Impact Award
This award recognises family-owned businesses delivering positive social impact beyond profit.
The category welcomes businesses at all stages of development, celebrating meaningful contributions that benefit people or communities.
People’s Choice Award
This award recognises the family-owned business most valued and supported by the public.
The category is open to family businesses trading for at least 12 months, with the winner determined by public vote.
Employee of the Year
This award recognises outstanding non-family employees within family-owned businesses.
The category includes employees across all roles and levels, celebrating dedication, contribution, and positive impact within the business.
Next Generation Impact Award
This award recognises next-generation family members making a positive contribution to their family business.
The category welcomes family members involved in the business in any capacity, celebrating impact and commitment regardless of role or title.
Family Business Leadership Award
This award recognises an individual demonstrating outstanding leadership within a family-owned business.
The category is open to both family and non-family leaders, celebrating leadership that drives success, stability, and positive culture.
North West Family Business of the Year
North West Family Business of the Year Award will be decided from the winners of each judged category.
Please note: Family businesses must have been trading for at least a year to enter NWFBA*. Our judges reserve the right to move applicants between categories if they feel a business is better suited to an alternative category to that applied for.
*With the exception of Best Social Impact and People’s Choice which specifies trading of 6 months by the time of the awards.
