The Community Foundation for Lancashire and Merseyside Supports ‘Purpose Driven Family Business Award’ at North West Family Business Awards

The Community Foundation for Lancashire and Merseyside (CFLM) is proud to announce its sponsorship of the ‘Purpose Driven Family Business Award’ at the upcoming North West Family Business Awards (which will be held on Friday 10th May at Bolton Wanderers Football Club).

The CFLM is a fantastic organisation which helps individuals, families, companies, charitable trusts, public sector bodies and organisations connect, support and invest in Lancashire and Merseyside’s communities through charitable giving. They handle every aspect of the giving process (from choosing a charity/project to handling all the behind-the-scenes bureaucracy and more). Their knowledge of the sector allows them to find and reach charities in the community, including lesser-known charities operating at a grassroots level; ensuring charitable giving creates lasting change.

Recognising the significant impact family businesses have on charitable giving, the Community Foundation is enthusiastic about being involved in an event that celebrates businesses with a strong commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.

Family businesses, deeply embedded within their communities, often prioritise giving back as part of their ethos. According to the 2021 survey of UK family businesses conducted by PwC, 74% of those surveyed contribute to the local community, and 47% participate in traditional philanthropy or grant-based giving. This reflects the inherent passion family businesses have for supporting and enhancing the well-being of their communities.

The November 2020 report, ‘Family Business and Community Engagement,’ highlights that family businesses, being the bedrock of communities across the UK, possess a distinct advantage in delivering the ‘S’ (Social) strand of their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. The report emphasises that the long-term commitment of many family businesses to specific geographical locations helps build trust with communities and other stakeholders.

“We are delighted to support the ‘Purpose Driven Family Business Award’ at the North West Family Business Awards,” said Karen Morris, Deputy CEO and Development Director at The Community Foundation for Lancashire and Merseyside. “Family businesses are often at the forefront of charitable giving, and this award aligns with our mission to recognize businesses that make a positive impact above and beyond their core activities, as well as to encourage other businesses to do the same”

The Community Foundation for Lancashire and Merseyside understands the importance of quantifying and demonstrating the positive impact businesses make in their communities. The Foundation works with family-run businesses, helping them develop and enhance their charitable giving strategies, ensuring they can effectively showcase the impact they are making to investors, suppliers, customers, and employees.

Karen Morris, Deputy CEO and Development Director expressed the Community Foundation’s commitment: “Wherever you are on your philanthropic journey, we make charitable giving easy by providing structured support bespoke to your needs. From creating your family’s social strategy to connecting you with grassroots community groups seeking funding, we ensure your charitable giving makes a real difference and reaches those who need it most.”

The North West Family Business Awards ceremony promises to be an evening of celebration and recognition, showcasing the outstanding achievements of family-owned businesses in the region. The Community Foundation for Lancashire & Merseyside is honoured to contribute to an event that shines a spotlight on the resilience, creativity, and success of family businesses in the North West.
